Italy – Ligurian Riviera – Loano
In the heart of the Ligurian Palm Riviera, Loano is the ideal holiday resort for the whole family both in summer and in winter thanks to its climate and beautiful landscapes.
Due to its particulary mild climate Loano can be visited during the whole year and thanks to excellent services it can host in particular families with children.
Loano is the typical Ligurian hamlet by the sea, with its promenade, the colourful houses, the caruggio and many little streets and squares where smells, colours, voices, music, bars and little shops blend together. During summer nights the old town comes to life thanks to colourful markets selling objects made by craftsmen, that allow tourists to discover another side of Loano.
Adults and children can go for a walk and play along the famous promenade of Loano, where you can admire amazing artistic fountains, made by artists who want to bring art in everyday life, and where you can find many restaurants and shops to relax and do shopping!
The very clean sea, awarded the Blue Flag, and the well equipped beaches of Loano will be the ideal location for the whole family.
You can not miss the new Marina of Loano, a modern leisure port that has been awarded the Blue Flag for Marinas. Here there are not only boat structures that lead the field, but also shops, bars and restaurants, so that families can enjoy a wonderful summer night or a winter afternoon.
But Loano is also history: you can not miss a visit to the Medieval hamlet and the Castle of Dorias on top of the hill.
The Old Town of Loano is one of the best preserved in Liguria and there you can visit important monuments, such as Palazzo Doria with its gardens and a beautiful sixteenth-century fountain.
If you are looking for an active holiday, Loano offers a lot of possibilities to satisfy your passion for sport: in addition to beach volley, diving, sailing and surfing, there is a sports hall to play basketball, volleyball, with an indoor swimming-pool, an outdoor Olympic swimming-pool, tennis fields, soccer fields and a bowling ground.
Loano has also a hinterland to discover.
Along itineraries to travel by bike or on foot you can find exclusive golf fields, equestrian centres and horse farms. Moreover, behind Loano there is another beautiful place: Toirano. This old Medieval hamlet is famous for its wonderful caverns that hold the greatest cemetery of bears in Europe.
During the whole year Loano organises unmissable events for families: from Carnevalöa, the greatest and most colourful carneval of Liguria (in summer and in winter), to music and theatre festivals and art exibitions in Palazzo Doria.
The Patron Saint’s Festival of S. Giovanni Battista on the 24th of June and the Festival of the Virgin Mary on the 2nd of July are traditional beautiful and suggestive events that engage both locals and tourists.
